Chinese New Year, or Lunar New Year, is the most important and grandest festival in China and other parts of the world.

It is celebrated by 20 percent of the global population.

The year 2021 is the Year of the Ox, the zodiac sign that occupies the second position in the Chinese Zodiac.

The Year of Metal Ox is from Feb. 12, 2021, the celebration of Chinese New Year, and ends on Jan. 31, 2022.

In Chinese culture, each Zodiac animal is associated with personal traits and luck.

Last year was the Year of Rat, which known for being inquisitive, shrewd, and resourceful.

According to Chinese myth, Jade Emperor ordered, on his birthday party, that the 12 animals who arrived first would become part of the Chinese Zodiac animal.

Rat convinced Ox for a back ride on the condition that Rat would be singing in the entire journey.

The Ox supposedly arrived first but Rat jumped off in front of him and became the first animal who arrived at the party.

On the flip side, Ox became the second animal.

This order was followed by Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog and Pig.

Each of these animals represented the 12-year cycle of the Chinese zodiac.

The Years of the Ox include 1913, 1925, 1937, 1949, 1961, 1973, 1985, 1997, and 2009.

The ox is a valued animal in Chinese culture because of its role in agriculture.  People who were born in the year of the Ox are also said to be hardworking, honest, diligent, and dependable.
