Man arrested for allegedly raping cousin in Dalaguete
CEBU CITY, Philippines —A 30-year-old man was arrested in Dalaguete town, southern Cebu on Sunday afternoon, March 7, 2021, for allegedly raping his cousin, police in the town said.
According to Dalaguete police, the victim, a 25-year-old single mom, is determined to file rape charges against the suspect, who, she said, sexually assaulted her on Sunday dawn.
Police Senior Master Sergeant Jackilou Branzuela of the Dalaguete Police Station, in a phone interview with CDN Digital, said the victim reported the incident to the police on Sunday afternoon. Police immediately conducted a hot-pursuit operation and caught the suspect in his house sleeping.
Branzuela said that based on the victim’s account, the sexual assault happened at around 1:30 a.m. on Sunday, March 7.
Branzuela said the victim told her that the suspect was drunk when he entered the victim’s home through the back door. The victim also told police that she didn’t scream for help or fight back since she didn’t want to scare her 2-year-old daughter, who woke up when she was sexually assaulted.
According to the victim, the suspect, prior to the assault, tried to bribe her P500 just to have sex with him. When she refused, this is when he started raping her.
The suspect is currently detained at the Dalaguete Police Station pending the filing of rape charges.
