LAPU-LAPU CITY, Philippines- Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Junard “Ahong” Chan has moved the start of the implementation of the mandatory wearing of face shields in the city to March 18, 2021.

In his public address on his Facebook page, Chan said that in his meeting with the Philippine National Police (PNP), Barangay Captains, Barangay Mayor’s Office (BMO) members, and City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) on March 3, 2021, they agreed to start the implementation of the mandatory wearing of face shields tomorrow, March 11, 2021.

But Chan said that he wants to give Oponganons a chance, especially that some of them might not be capable of buying a face shield yet.

“Apan akong nakita nga daghan pa sa atong mga kaigsuonan ang wala pay ikapalit ug face shield, mao nga akong nahukman nga i-extend ang implementation sa face shield ngadto na sa Marso 18, 2021,” Chan said.

Before its implementation, Chan said that he will be ordering city hall employees to distribute face shields to the public.

The mayor also orders the return of the fine of P1,000 to those who were caught by the Barangay’s Enforcement Unit (BEU) for not wearing their face shield and to no longer require them to render community service.

“Ang pagmando sa pagsul-ob sa face mask or face shield, nagagikan sa ulohang buhatan o IATF, ug ang siyudad igo lang sa pagsunod ug pag-implementar niini,” he added.

Chan made the public address after he received a report that the BEU in Barangay Calawisan has already started apprehending those who were not wearing face shields.

A Facebook post has also gone viral, wherein a man was seen in a picture being apprehended by BEUs inside a subdivision. The man was only wearing a face mask and without a face shield. /rcg
