Duterte-Duterte in 2022 is a ‘bit too much,’ PH is not Davao City, says Lacson
MANILA, Philippines — Filipinos are not only ready for a Davao-City-like political situation but it is also a “bit too much” to see a Duterte-Duterte tandem in 2022, Senator Panfilo Lacson said on Friday, March 19, 2021.
“The Philippines is not Davao City. If they can do that in Davao City, I don’t think Filipinos are ready for a Davao City-like political situation or arrangement. I don’t think so,” Lacson said when asked over ABS-CBN News Channel about a possible Duterte-Duterte tandem.
A possible presidential run by Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio with her father President Rodrigo Duterte as running mate was earlier floated by Chief Presidential Legal Counsel Salvador Panelo.
President Duterte’s possible vice presidential bid with Senator Christopher “Bong” Go’s bid for the presidency is also being pushed by some members of the ruling PDP-Laban party.
“This is not to take anything away from Senator Go, or Sara Duterte or President Duterte. But I don’t think Filipinos are ready to see a Davao City-like political situation in the whole country,” Lacson went on.
The senator said a Duterte-Duterte victory in 2022 would reduce the Philippines to a mere barangay of Davao City, the Duterte family hometown.
“Philippine is just a barangay of Davao City kung ganun ang magiging situation,” he said.
“I think it’s a bit too much. While you say it’s constitutional, it’s legal, and it’s really up to (the) electorate to decide…But you know sa akin, this is personal ano, parang hindi magandang tingnan,” Lacson added.
