CEBU CITY, Philippines — Regular police checkpoint areas in Cebu Province will be converted into police assistance or help desk areas for the upcoming Holy Week.

Police Colonel Alladin Collado, Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO) chief, said this was just part of the CCPO’s “Lakbay Alalay” program, which involved the security preparations for the Holy Week.

Aside from the security plan for the checkpoints, Collado said that he was also coordinating with the Coast Guard on the security preparations for the seaports and terminals in the province as they would be expecting an influx of travelers during that time.

He, however, said that there were already policemen securing the ports and terminals but they would be augmented if the need would arise.

“I will talk to the chief of police na kung saan na mayroon silang mga ports and coordinate with the Coast Guard sa kung ano yung security preparation natin on the Holy Week,” Collado said.

He also planned to talk with the local priests and other Christian communities about their activities for the Holy Week because there were still protocols to be followed.

He reminded them about the health safety protocols that these should be enforced during the planned gatherings to celebrate the Holy Week.

Collado said that they were keeping a balance with their enforcement on public safety and the implementation of the minimum health standard protocols.

However, he also said that they were waiting for the final memorandum of Cebu Governor Gwendolyn on the guidelines that people should follow during the observance of the Holy Week.

Meanwhile, Collado said that he would also send policemen to patrol residential areas during the Holy Week.

He said that this was because they believed that more people would leave their houses that week to observe those days of the Lenten season.

Aside from that, the province policemen would also be on the lookout for those engaging in illegal cockfighting or tigbakay, especially during the Holy Week.
