How to reduce your carbon footprint

By: - March 19, 2021

Climate change is no joke.

Although it takes a global scale to effectively reduce our effect to the environment, there are choices we make in our day-to-day lives that help lessen our carbon footprint.

Personal action on reducing our impact on the environment is not hard, and it comes with great benefits.

In addition to reducing carbon footprint, you’ll also save money and time, avoid traffic, improve air quality, and even perhaps enjoy a healthier and more active lifestyle.

Here are some tips on reducing our carbon footprint:

One of the major culprit to climate change is unrecycled plastic bottles. To lessen its effects, stop buying them or purchase a reusable plastic bottle and carry it around with you all the time.

  1. Stop buying water in plastic
Most if not all; of the water we buy is usually placed in plastics. Although companies already made proactive choices, most of our plastic bottles still end up unrecycled. To help lessen its impact, opt for a reusable water bottle and keep it filled at all times. Help eliminate single-use plastic, that way you’ll save money and help the environment as well.

If you’re close to your destination, always choose to walk; and if you can’t take the heat, opt a ride in a public transport.

  2. Choose to walk
Modes of transportation are one of man-kinds greatest achievements. It cuts travel time especially when we are traveling long distances. However, its emissions can cause harmful effects on our environment. So if you’re traveling a short distance, choose to walk instead of taking a bus ride.
  3. Eat homegrown or local products
In correlation to #2, the delivery of food sources also contributes to the effects of global warming. The longer the food has to travel to a destination, the more carbon footprint in leaves. To reduce it, opt for some homegrown vegetables for your dish or choose food that is locally sourced or made, which has little to the none carbon footprint.

When you’re out of town, or when not using your lights, don’t forget to turn them off! You may not notice the difference in your bill, but in the long run you’ll actually save more.

  4. Turn off lights
When you’re not at home, or when you’re in bed, always remember to turn your lights off. This also goes at work offices… Powering empty rooms and office spaces is a huge energy drain. By making sure you turn your lights and appliances off, you’re contributing to energy saving.
  5. Keep stuff out of the landfill
This does not mean you no longer have to throw your garbage…
If you have items that you no longer use, sell them to thrift shops, or donate them to a friend or a charity. Always remember to recycle or repurpose everything you can’t get rid of.
