CEBU CITY, Philippines – The Department of Health in Central Visayas (DOH-7) is targeting to complete all healthcare workers’ inoculation schedule for the first dose of AstraZeneca by Tuesday, March 23, 2021.

In a virtual press briefer on Monday, March 22, Dr. Mary Jean Loreche, DOH-7 spokesperson, announced they were able to post a success rate of 48.6 percent in vaccinating medical frontliners against coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) as of March 20.

This meant that out of the 54,640 health workers in Central Visayas qualified to receive free COVID-19 vaccines from the national government, 26,543 were jabbed with the first dose.

Of this number, 12,088 were given with AstraZeneca vaccines while the rest received Sinovac’s CoronaVac.

DOH-7 also reported that 29 hospitals have already begun rolling out their supply of AstraZeneca vaccines since last week.

Central Visayas received a total of 107,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccines both from AstraZeneca and Sinovac.

Meanwhile, Loreche said they are yet to set a deadline for the rollout of Sinovac’s first dose to all healthcare workers in the region.

“In the meantime, there are already 31 hospitals in Central Visayas that have already completed their inoculation schedules for the first dose of Sinovac,” she added.

DOH-7 still needs to vaccinate 28,097 more medical workers to achieve a 100 percent accomplishment rate in administering the first dose of COVID-19 vaccines.

On the other hand, the regional health office said that as of March 21, they recorded 434 health workers who refused to be inoculated with either brand of the vaccines, and 686 more were deferred, the latter being ineligible to receive both vaccines.

DOH-7 also recorded a total of 944 healthcare workers who experienced mild adverse effects after receiving the vaccination.
