MANDAUE CITY, Philippines – The road from Barangay Mantuyong to Barangay Guizo here will be asphalted very soon as the contractor is now only waiting for the city to issue the Notice to Proceed (NTP) to start supplying plant mix asphalt ordered by the City Engineer’s Office.

Personnel from the Housing Urban and Development Office (HUDO) have started clearing obstructions in the Gaisano road which is a two-way road.

Cesar Ylanan, HUDO’s demolition team head, said the area was previously a squatter area where plenty of informal settlers lived from 2016 to 2018.

Ylanan said the construction is expected to start this week.

City engineer Andre Suson said they have already ordered 1,500 metric tons of plant mix asphalt to the winning contractor.

Suson said the contractor is now only waiting for the city to issue the Notice to Proceed (NTP) to start supplying plant mix asphalt.

Suson also disclosed that there will be no problem of acquiring the road right of way as they will finish it in just 15 days after the asphalt will be delivered.

He added the budget is part of the more than 13 million allocated by the city for the construction of the dilapidated roads in the city.

Ylanan said one of the purposes of the project is to discouraged informal settlers from returning to the area.

Ylanan added public utility jeepneys can also use the two-way road to decongest nearby roads of traffic.

He said they already asked the Traffic Enforcement Agency of Mandaue (TEAM) to designate personnel there once the construction is completed. /rcg
