1 killed, 6 injured in road accident in Pinamungajan, Cebu
CEBU CITY, Philippines – A group that came from a fiesta celebration landed in the hospital after they figured in a vehicular accident while traversing the road in Barangay Pandacan in Pinamungajan town.
A passing salesman was also killed during the incident after the Hilux pickup driven by Joseph Lucerna of Barangay Tungkop in Minglanilla town hit his motorcycle before it rammed a into a roadside house.
Glecedo Cuizon, 47, was thrown from his motorcycle and landed on the concrete pavement which resulted to his death.
The incident happened at about 6:20 p.m. on Sunday, June 20, in Sitio Banban, Barangay Pandacan, Pinamungajan town.
Lucerna, who was found to be intoxicated, is now under police custody.
According to a report by Police Major Vincent Zozobrado, Lucerna and his four companions were travelling back to Minglanilla town after they attended a fiesta celebration in Sitio Baybay.
Witnesses, Zozobrado said, claimed that Lucerna was over speeding as he tried to overtake a vehicle that was travelling ahead of him. But he reportedly lost control of the pickup when he swerved to the left.
His vehicle collided with Cuizon’s motorcycle that was travelling on the southbound lane.
The pick up then hit two coconut trees and rammed into a roadside house and injured its owner, Warren Delarmente, 48, who was then sitting outside of his home.
Lucerna and his passengers Theresa Lucerna, 52; Mary Mae Lucerna, 24; Nenalyn Moreno, 30; and Christian Moreno, 30; and Delarmente were brought to the hospital for the treatment of their wounds.
Cuizon, a resident of Purok Avocado in Barangay Pandacan was already dead when he was brought to the Pinamungajan District Hospital. / dcb
