CEBU CITY, Philippines—- The JPS Zamboanga City proved that they were good as advertised after they routed the Kapatagan Buffalo Braves,89-53, in their first game of the ongoing Mindanao leg of the 2021 Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas VisMin Super Cup, Friday at the Ipil Provincial Gymnasium in Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay.

JPS did not waste time by establishing a commanding,24-8, first quarter lead and never looked back. The Buffalo Braves tried to douse the fire with their runs, but JPS has enough firepower to retaliate.

The Buffalo Braves representing the municipality of Kapatagan in Lanao del Norte managed to cut the lead to six from Renz Palma’s layup at the 1:42 mark of the second quarter.

“I told my players at halftime that the game is four quarters, 40 minutes. Naging complacent sila eh, now you have to show and come back like what you did in the first quarter,” said JPS head coach Tony Pardo.

However, JPS was just teasing them after the former built their lead back to 15 midway in the third period.

They shut the lights off for the Buffalo Braves by unleashing an,11-1, run to build an insurmountable 25-point margin heading to the final period, 64-39.

The lead would eventually grow to 38 on a putback by Jerom Ferrer, 87-49.

There was parity in JPS’ offense with eight players scoring at least seven points, led by Gino Jumao-as’ 13 markers on a 5-of-7 clip.

Backstopping him were Rudy Lingganay and Mac Cardona with 12 and 11 markers, with the former adding 9 assists, 5 rebounds, and 2 steals.

Jerwin Gaco just missed a double-double with 10 points and nine boards.

Zamboanga was on point the whole game, finishing with an efficient 38-of-69 shooting from the field- a high 55.1-percent.

Marlon Monte had 11 points while Bobby Mandreza and Palma got 10 apiece as the Braves suffered their first loss following their impressive victory against the Iligan City Archangels last Wednesday.

The stacked Zamboanga JPS eyes for second straight victory as they take on the Pagadian Explorers on July 13, Tuesday at 1:00 p.m.

The Buffalo Braves will return into action on July 15, Thursday, versus the ALZA Alayon Zamboanga del Sur at 2:00 p.m.
