Kiefer “The Phenom” Ravena once again lived up to his moniker as he scored a whopping 38 points to carry the Ateneo Blue Eagles past the hard-fighting University of the East (UE) Red Warriors, 93-91, in overtime in the UAAP men’s basketball tournament yesterday at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Ravena was simply a man on a mission as he scored the game-tying jumper from the right wing that locked the game at 80-all with 23.4 seconds remaining.

In overtime, he padded his reputation as the best player in the collegiate ranks as he calmly sank a pull-up three pointer over UE guard Roi Sumang to give Ateneo a 91-85 lead with under a minute left.

UE persevered and came within one, 90-91, after Sumang hit a long triple of his own and then fed import Charles Mammie for a slam-dunk with  14.9 seconds left. On Ateneo’s offensive, Ravena was fouled and split his charities to push the Eagles’ lead to two.

Sumang failed to tie the game as he forced the action, was blocked by a phalanx of Ateneo defenders and had the ball hit him on its way out of bounds.

Ravena was again fouled and hit the first but missed the second. The Red Warriors managed to snag the rebound and Gino Jumao-as was fouled by Thirdy Ravena, leaving the door ajar for UE. Jumao-as made the first freethrow before intentionally missing the second. However, the rebound landed in the hands of Ateneo rookie Arvin Tolentino as the Eagles logged their sixth win in seven games.

UE, which fell to 2-4 (win-loss), got 30 points from Sumang.
