MANDAUE CITY, Cebu – The Police Regional Office in Central Visayas (PRO-7) reported that a total of 65 policemen tested positive for COVID-19 on Tuesday, August 10, 2021, bringing the total number of its active cases to 104.

Police Brigadier General Ronnie Montejo, PRO-7 director, said 48 of the new cases were from the Regional Training Center located in Consolacion town in northern Cebu.

“Mas maayo nalang nga naa sila didto sa sulod, padayon lang gihapon ang ilang program pero at the same time quarantine sila didto in coordiantion sa mga training directors,” said Montejo.

As of this posting, the regional director, however, said that he had no data yet whether these newly infected individuals have been vaccinated but stressed that he received reports that some of its active cases in other provinces in the region already got their jabs and are asymptomatic.

Meanwhile, Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) Director Josefino Ligan reported that they have two cops who tested positive for COVID-19, both of whom have received their first doses of vaccines.

Ligan said one of the two new cases is symptomatic but stressed that both are now isolated.

Ligan also expressed his gratitude towards CCPO policemen who had themselves vaccinated, saying almost 80 percent of their overall number of personnel are now vaccinated.

For his part, Police Colonel Engelbert Soriano, the director of the Cebu Police Provincial Office (CPPO), said they have active cases of not more than 10 personnel, one of whom is symptomatic while the rest are asymptomatic.

Soriano said the number is not alarming, considering that they have almost 2,300 overall personnel in the province.

However, he disclosed that CPPO lost one high-ranking personnel in the town of Asturias in southern Cebu due to COVID-19 last week.

“Ito kasi, punung-puno ito nang commorbidities at dati kinausap ko siya at naging concerned nga din ako sa health niya. And yun nga, it’s a sad news na tinamaan siya and siguro due to his failing health at tsaka immune system,” said Soriano.
