Clearer photo of suspect behind murder of Lawyer Fernandez to be released – CCPO
CEBU CITY, Philippines — The Special Investigation Task Group – Fernandez has secured a clearer photo of the suspect behind the murder of Lawyer Rex Fernandez last August 26.
The photo was grabbed from the enhanced footage of a security camera which they found close to the crime scene, said Police Colonel Josefino Ligan, director of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO).
Ligan said that they would be releasing the photo that was enhanced by the personnel of the Regional Anti-Cybercrime Unit (RACU-7) to the public and they were hopeful that someone could recognize him and provide them with details of his possible location.
As of this posting, Ligan and members of SITG are convening in their third meeting to discuss the development of the case.
Enhanced footage, clearer photo
Ligan said that with this enhanced footage where a clearer photo of the killer was taken, the suspect’s face structure was clearer and identifiable enough that those, who would be familiar with him could recognize him.
Apart from the suspect’s identity, Ligan also said that they were also hoping that the plate number of the getaway motorcycle used by the suspect and his accomplice would also be clearly identified.
Even if they had yet to come up with a concrete motive, Ligan personally assessed that the motive could be considered as a personal grudge, but he begged off to go into details pending the investigation.
“Tan-aw nako murag personal na,”said Ligan.
(For me, it could be personal (grudge).)
However, they are not discounting still the victim’s job as a lawyer.
Rex Fernandez was a Cebuano lawyer who became controversial after holding a hunger strike. He was ambushed along Duterte Street, Banawa, Barangay Guadalupe, Cebu City, last August 26.
Recently, the woman in the backseat who was with Fernandez, at that time, but disembarked from the car right after the incident, was ruled out as a person of interest behind the killing after she cooperated and released her statement to the police.
SITG-CORTES
Meanwhile, the SITG-Cortes still does not have any possible leads in gunman, who shot dead the radio blocktimer Rey Cortes last July 22.
Ligan said that they still had no eyewitnesses, but that they were now looking after a possible getaway car that was captured by a security camera near the area of the shooting incident.
However, he said that they were still gathering additional details on this.
