USJ-R, two other powerhouse squads remain unbeaten in Shakey’s Girls’ V-League

Defending Central Visayas Leg champions University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Baby Jaguars racked up two wins yesterday to remain unbeaten in the Shakey’s Girls’ V-League at the Aznar Coliseum.

Keeping in step with the Baby Jaguars, who are now 3-0 (win-loss) in the team standings of bracket A, are 19th Milo Little Olympics Visayas Championship secondary girls champions University of San Carlos (USC-BED) Baby Warriors, who also scored two wins yesterday.

The mighty Pajo National High School squad,  with Lyn Ross Densing, Quennie Jane Capangpangan, Wellamae Ortega, Justine Therese Bragat, Mary Gwyneth Duran and Mariel Ganrnez at the helm, kept on track in its bid to return to the national finals by staying unbeaten after three outings in Bracket B with a 25-13, 18-25 and 25-16 win over the Southwestern University (SWU) Baby Cobras.

The Baby Jaguars recovered from opening set jitters to outplay the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) Magis Eagles, 25-20, 25-9, in their first game yesterday. They followed that up with a 25-19, 16-25, 25-22, squeaker over the University of Southern Philippines-Foundation (USP-F).

The girls of USJ-R head coach Roldan Potot opened up their campaign in the combined Central and Eastern Visayas leg of the event with a lopsided victory on Wednesday versus the Sacred Heart School-Hijas de Cebu.

Lyanna Kae Abellana, Fressel Mendoza, Kate Chantal Rodriguez, Aira Jean Sator, Roby Claire Villaceran and the rest of USC-BED, meanwhile, logged wins over Hijas de Jesus (25-7, 25-6) and USP-F (25-15, 25-15) for a 3-0 mark.

The Baby Jaguars, who are seeking to avenge their loss last year to the Hope Christian School in the championship game of the Battle of Champions in Manila, recovered from an error-filled game early in the first set and found their marks in the second to blast the Magis Eagles.

The second set turned out to be like a practice game for the defending champion USJ-R as Ma. Deanna Izabella Wong, Daniella Alfeche, Florani Camacho and Anna Marie Aldave took turns in attacking the defense of SHS-AdC.

Also logging in a victory yesterday was the Don Gerardo spikers of Mandaue City, who blasted the hapless Paref-Southcrest, 25-8 and 25-14, to even their win loss slate to 2-2 in Bracket B.
SWU bounced back from its loss to Pajo by  crushing PAREF-Southcrest, 25-5, 25-4, to remain in second place in bracket B with a  3-1 record.
