All set for RiChessMasters Battle of Champions

CEBU CITY, Philippines—A total of 24 woodpushers will clash in the upcoming “RiChessMasters Battle of Champions” slated on Thursday, December 2, 2021, via an online format.

The list of competitors is headed by  Grand Master (GM) Rogelio Antonio Jr., one of the leading woodpushers of the vaunted Iloilo Kisela Knights in the Professional Chess Association of the Philippines (PCAP). 

FIDE Master (FM) Anthony Makinano of the Lapu-Lapu City Naki Warriors will also vie along with teammates Allan Pason, Bryle Arellano and Edsel Montoya.

Also, Toledo Trojans’ players Bhell Ortiz and Raymond Abellana are competing. 

The rest of the competitors who will see action are National Master (NM) Noel Dela Cruz, Raymond Abellana, Ronald Llavanes, Christian Yves Fiel, Kevin Arquero, Sherwin Tiu, Eric Labog Jr., Theseus Benitez, Neil Gilig, Michael Linde, Julius Sinangote, John Clifford Labog, Joel Pimentel, Ivan Cu, Christian Mendoza, Blue Vince Clyde, Khent Delig, and Alekhine Nouri.

The tournament’s format is a seven-round Swiss system competition with three minutes playing time and two second increment. It will utilize the Tornelo online chess platform. 

The champion will receive P2,0000 while the second placer gets P1,000, and  the third placer P500. 

This tournament as a tune-up tournament for the much-awaited Mactan Open & Philippine National Championships 2021 chess competition on December 9 to 15, 2021 at the Solea Hotel and Resort in Cordova town on Mactan Island.
