5:30 p.m. – SWU vs UV (Srs.)

The top four squads in the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) men’s basketball tournament will try to secure their positions in the Final Four as they return to action today in what is expected to be a slam-bang basketball affair over at the Cebu Coliseum.

The defending champions University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers try to hold on to the third seed as they rekindle their bitter rivalry with last year’s runners-up, the Southwestern University (SWU) Cobras in the main game of a quadruple-header at 5:30 p.m.

In yet another ebb to its inconsistent showing so far this season, UV got edged by the University of San Carlos (USC) Warriors in its last game, 66-69, to fall to 4-5.

UV had earlier lost to the Cobras, 58-71, in their first meeting this season but expect to go for all the marbles today in order to keep the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Jaguars at bay.

While both SWU and the University of San Carlos (USC) are assured of the top two slots by virtue of their league-leading 7-1 cards, both UV and USJ-R are in a dogfight for the third and fourth seeds. The Warriors and the Cobras will be armed with a twice-to-beat advantage in the next round.

The Jaguars will try to get in position to steal third place with a win today against the streaking Warriors at 4 p.m. USJ-R recently slipped past UV, 67-63, in a thrilling comeback from 16 points down in the final frame to improve its record to 3-4.
