Weather outlook: Mario ‘game over’ Sunday
WEATHERMEN said Cebu would have windy and sunny weather this weekend, as tropical storm Mario left the country on Friday.
After a day of widespread flooding in Metro Cebu, waters receded from streets.
The forecast for Monday to Wednesday is cloudy skies with sunny periods and rain in the evenings.
Metro Manila and nearby provinces are expected to have better weather today while heavy rains are projected to continue in Northern and Central Luzon until tonight.
“Mario” slightly weakened as it crossed the northern tip of Luzon and continues on its way to Taiwan, the state weather bureau said in its Friday bulletin.
Forecasters said the storm was expected to exit the Philippine landmass Friday night and out of the Philippines by Sunday morning.
As of 4 p.m., the center of Mario was located 70 kilometers north east of Laoag City.
Mario was forecast to be 190 km northwest of Itbayat, Batanes this morning.
Pagasa said the heavy rainfall over Metro Manila and many parts of Luzon was due to the effect of the storm and its enhancement of the southwest monsoon.
“The rains will still continue so we expect this to go higher,” said weather forecaster Aldczar Aurelio.
The tropical storm was packing winds of 85 kph and gusts up to 100 kph.
Public storm signal No. 2 was up over Cagayan, including the Calayan, Babuyan and Batanes groups of islands, Isabela, Kalinga, Apayao, Mountain Province, Abra and Ilocos Norte.
Public storm signal No. remained over the provinces of Aurora, Quirino, Nueva Vizcaya, Ifugao, Benguet, Ilocos Sur and La Union.
Rainfall warning in Metro Manila, Bulacan, Pampanga, Rizal and Cavite was lowered from Red to Orange around 6 p.m. Friday.
But Red warning was hoisted in Bataan, Zambales and Nueva Ecija, where rainfall amount is more than 30 millimeters and is expected in an hour.
The Yellow warning, meanwhile, was raised in Laguna, Batangas and Quezon Province.
