ONE hundred women availed of the free cancer screening sponsored by the Zonta Club Cebu II held in barangay Alang-Alang, Mandaue City as part of the annual observance of Breast Cancer Awareness Month this October.

“We are thankful to the group for sponsoring this activity. If the women underwent screening at a hospital, they would pay P300-500,” Alang-alang barangay chairperson Mylene Sanchez said.

Zonta Club Cebu II chapter president Marietta Malinao said the screening consists of papsmear tests that will be submitted to hospitals for further examination.

The club also sponsored lectures on cancer detection, treatment of cysts and other illnesses and diseases.

The Zonta Club Cebu II said their group had been in existence for 32 years in Cebu.

“We give health care, literacy, livelihood and other opportunities for abused women and children,” Malinao said.

Aside from living in the area Mildred Simolde, Zonta’s committee chairperson, said they chose Alang-Alang for their women’s organizations.
