Two alleged members of a Ganyolon-Salonoy-Coronel syndicate were killed in a shootout with Boljoon police office at 12:22 p.m Monday.

Insp. Dexter Basirgo was wounded in the shooting at barangay San Antonio, Boljoon town.

Boljoon police went to the area after being alerted on the presence of suspect Arnel Coronel and his men in the town. Basirgo was in an ambulance on his way to a Cebu City hospital when Cebu Daily News called to ask about the incident.

He was shot in the shoulder and the stomach. Killed in the shootout were Arnel Coronel, cousin of Lorenzo Coronel and a certain Titing. Last Saturday, three members of the same criminal group were also killed in Dalaguete town.

Senior Supt. Noel Gillamac, Cebu provincial police chief, said the group is involved in illegal drugs, robberies, gun for hire, rape, cattle rustling and extortion. They are also hired as goons by politicians during elections.
