Cop accused of gun-toting

A policeman was accused of gun-toting in barangay Sta. Cruz, Cebu City Sunday afternoon.

PO1 Randy Restupa could face dismissal from the police service if he’s proven guilty, Supt. Renato Dugan, chief of the personnel division of the Police Regional Office in Central Visayas (PRO-7), said.

Dugan said the accusation against Restupa, a resident of barangay Kamagayan, Cebu City, is a grave offense.

Restupa denied any wrongdoing and claimed he didn’t have a firearm when he was arrested.

He, however, admitted that he was drunk when fellow policeman, PO3 Roel Tabañag, arrested him.

According to the police, Restupa was drunk when he went to a store owned by Erlinda Pasumala.

Police said Restupa kept on knocking on the store’s door, but no one responded. This irked the policeman who allegedly threatened to set the store on fire.

Marlon Romero, a relative of the store owner, asked Restupa to calm down but the policeman allegedly pointed a .45 caliber pistol at him.

Tabañag, who was playing a basketball game nearby, was informed of the incident.
Tabañag rushed to the store and arrested Restupa.

Tabañag said he confiscated a .45 caliber pistol from Restupa and turned the firearm to operatives of the Mobile Patrol Group.

Tabañag said he rescued Restupa from some residents who tried to attack him.
Restupa was detained at the Fuente Police Station.

Restupa denied pointing a gun at Romero. He was in the area to respond to a trouble alarm.
