Talk ‘N Text, Rain or Shine target third wins
Games today
Araneta Coliseum
4:15 p.m.- Rain or Shine vs. Barako Bull
7:00 p.m.- Talk ’N Text vs. Kia
The Rain or Shine Elasto Painters and the Talk ’N Text Tropang Texters try to break free from a logjam at the middle part of the standings when they play separate opponents today in the 40th PBA Philippine Cup at the Araneta Coliseum.
The two teams will be heavily favored in their respective matches with the Elasto Painters colliding with the winless Barako Bull Energy Colas in the first game and the Tropang Texters taking on expansion team Kia Sorento in the main game.
Rain or Shine, Talk ’N Text, the NLEX Road Warriors and the GlobalPort Batang Pier all sport 2-2 (win-loss) cards to crowd the fifth to eighth spots in the team standings.
Leading the race are the Alaska Aces, who remain the only unbeaten team in the 12-team field with a 4-0 (win-loss) card. Tied for the second to fourth spots are the San Miguel Beermen, the Meralco Bolts and the Barangay Ginebra Kings, who all have 3-1 slates.
Talk ‘N Text is looking to get a good follow-up of its 99-76 bashing of Rain or Shine last Sunday.
That win allowed Talk ‘N Text recover from a sorry 98-100 loss to Alaska.
“We just fixed what went wrong in the Alaska game. We checked what went wrong offensively and defensively, and tried to be consistent in that aspect,” said Talk ‘N Text coach Jong Uichico in a report posted at www.pbainquirer.net, the league’s official website.
Talk ‘N Text was brilliant throughout the game, something that they failed to do in the two-point loss to Alaska.
“Hindi namin na-sustain yung intensity namin the last time and we were singlehandedly manhandled by Calvin Abueva,” said Uichico.
Kia and Barako Bull, on the other hand, are looking to arrest their skids.
Kia has dropped its last three games after starting the tournament with a come-from-behind 80-66 win over Blackwater Elite in the opening day last Oct. 19.
The successive losses pulled Kia down to the 10th spot.
The Energy Colas have yet to win under new head coach Koy Banal having lost their first three losses to join Blackwater at the bottom of the standings.
Blackwater has also yet to win after four starts.
Tournament format states that the two teams with worst records after the single elimimination round will be the first to take an early vacation.
