Metro Cebu heat index reaches 40°C on Sept. 14
CEBU CITY, Philippines – The heat index in Metro Cebu on Wednesday noon, September 14 hit as high as 40° Celsius, the state weather bureau reported.
The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration in Mactan (Pagasa-Mactan) issued a heat temperature advisory at 12 p.m. on Wednesday after recording a heat index of 40° Celsius.
Current heat temperature in Metro Cebu also reached 32.8° Celsius, with relative humidity of 62 percent on Wednesday noon, Pagasa-Mactan added.
These temperatures are under the Extreme Caution category of Pagasa’s effects-based classification which means the public should take measures to prevent heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke such as staying indoors and staying hydrated.
“At this condition, heat cramps and heat exhaustion are possible. Continuing activity could result in heat stroke,” Pagasa-Mactan’s advisory read.
According to Pagasa, the heat index or the “human discomfort index” gives the “apparent” temperature, or what humans perceive or feel as the temperature affecting their body. / with reports from INQUIRER.net /rcg
