LTFRB-7 holds fare rollback hearing on Dec. 17
The regional office of the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) scheduled a Dec. 17 public hearing on a fare rollback petition filed by former Cebu City councilor Augustus Pe Jr.
Pe petitioned for a 50-centavo fare rollback of the current P7.50 fare rate last Nov. 21 at the LTFRB-7 office.
In a privilege speech during yesterday’s Cebu City Council session, Councilor Jun Gabuya proposed that an executive session on the fare rate petition be held on Dec. 17.
Pe cited a report in the Department of Energy (DOE) website that showed that the common price of diesel as of Nov. 18 is P36.60 per liter. Diesel prices ranged from P34.40 to P37.50, he said.
He also quoted the DOE website report that most of the oil companies implemented a price roll-back of 80 centavos per liter for gasoline, 50 centavos per liter for diesel and 35 centavos per liter for kerosene effective last Nov. 18.
Matching rollback
“Year-to-date, gasoline and diesel have a total net decrease of P7.34 per liter and P8.48 per liter, respectively,” Pe said.
“Considering the substantial difference between the domestic oil price back in May 2012 which was P44 per liter (when the current P7.50 jeepney fare was implemented) compared with the existing common price at P36.60, the petitioner submits that a matching fare rollback of P0.50 and a corresponding minimum jeepney fare of P7 should likewise be observed,” he said.
Edwin Antepuesto, hearing officer of LTFRB-7, said they already sent notices to Pe, transport groups and stakeholders for the public hearing.
“Parties opposed to the petition shall file their petition within 10 days from the date of the publication of the notice of the hearing,” Antepuesto said.
He also mentioned that the “petitioner shall ensure the publication of this Notice of Hearing in a newspaper of local circulation at least 15 days prior to the date of the hearing.” Antepuesto said Pe should also submit proof of receipt by the Office of the Solicitor General of a copy of the petition and the notice of hearing during the scheduled hearing.
