Pardo netter scores huge win in Cebuana Lhuillier tennis
Francis Hidalgo of Pardo, Cebu City scored a huge win yesterday in the Cebuana Lhuillier-Dunlop Sport Age Group Tournament Leg 28 (Group 3) competition at the Alta Vista Golf and Country Club tennis court.
The University of the Visayas (UV) ace Hidalgo, a gold medalist in the 2014 Batang Pinoy Visayas Qualifier in Kalibo, Aklan, zoomed into the quarterfinal round after ousting 14-Under boys no.2-seed Fahd Kenneth Banico with a 10-8 victory.
With the win, Hidalgo will now face Nathaniel Carl Alipe for a semis slot after Alipe fashioned out a 10-1 victory over Christian Bahenting.
Jan Godfrey Seno, meanwhile, continued his blazing run in the tournament as he tallied a couple of victories yesterday in different age groups.
Bogo City’s Seno booked a semis seat in the premier Boys 18-Under division after he beat Manuel Francis Navales, 10-2, in their quarterfinals duel.
Seno also registered a 10-2 victory over John Clyde Laquio, 10-2, to enter the Boys 16-Under quarterfinals.
Seno is set to face Clyde Dale Bienes in the Boys 18-Under semis after the latter downed Francis Quino, 10-2.
The other semis showdown in the Boys 18-Under semis is between No.1 seed Mike Evander Bienes, a 10-7 victor over Alfred Yaranon, and Christopher Encarnacion, who eliminated the hard-hitting John Clyde Laquio, 10-5.
In the 18-Under Girls, the protagonists who automatically entered the semifinal rounds due to a few number of entries at the Citi Green Tennis Resort are Shyne Villareal versus Janine Urgello, and Zethley Mae Alferez and winner between Precious Coderos and Nathalie Alipe.
The other quarterfinalists in the 16 Under boys division are; Manuel Francis Navales, who defeated Laurence Stefan Abarquez, 10-1; Marc Pradel, who won over Khylle Pollo, 10-6; Chistopher Encarnacion, who bested Marc Nicole Suson, 10-3; Anthonyt Lu, a 10-9 winner over Joni Butconl; and Fhad Kenneth Banico, who scored a 10-1 win over Armando Magallanes.
The matches for the 16-Under Girls quarterfinals are between Shynne Villareal and Ashley Zamora; Janine Urgello and Elizabeth Abarquez; Kristin Renne Salimbangon and Precious Coderos; and Denice Kaye Alota against Zethley Mae Alferez.
