Cebu City gov’t offers free rides to Sinulog venue at SRP

CEBU CITY, Philippines—One Cebu Island Sinulog 2023 spectators can avail of free rides to the new Sinulog venue at the South Road Properties (SRP) starting at 8 a.m. on Sunday, January 15, 2023.

Councilor Joel Garganera, in a social media post on Wednesday afternoon, January 11, announced that the Cebu City government, in partnership with Global Electric Transport (GET) and the Visayan Electric Company, will be providing free air-conditioned rides using Electric Vehicles from Plaza Independencia to SRP and vice-versa this Sunday. 

A total of 10 Electric Vehicles will be deployed to ensure continuous operation, Garganera said.

Garganera is also the chairman of the city council’s Committee on Environment, Natural Resources, Energy and other utilities.

Meanwhile, Paul Gotiong of the Cebu City Transportation Office (CCTO), said utility vehicles from various transport cooperatives will also be transporting spectators to SRP using five color-coded routes, starting 6 a.m. on Sunday.

These, however, will no longer be for free.

He said MyBus units will ply the designated yellow route. These units will be deployed from Anjo World in Minglanilla going to the Laray, Talisay side of the SRP. 

For the black route, PITAM Cooperative-operated modern public utility jeepneys are assigned to transport passengers from Barangay Talamban to the front of the SRP viaduct.

For the blue route, utility vehicles operated by MyBus, PITAM Cooperative, and El Pardo will ferry passengers from ParkMall to the SRP.

Moreover, vehicles assigned to follow the red route will be coming from Gaisano Tabunok (going Shopwise in Mambaling). These units will be operated by El Pardo.

The last route that needs confirmation as of this posting, Gotiong said, is the green route, which includes vehicles that will ferry Sinulog spectators from Marigondon and Cordova.
