The self-proclaimed king of the Southwestern University (SWU) Cobras will have to find a new throne.
This, after it was revealed that Landry Sanjo, the dominant Cameroonian who powered the Cobras to several titles including the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) men’s crown this year, will no longer be playing for SWU because of academic deficiencies.
The stunning development was confirmed by SWU head coach Raul “Yayoy” Alcoseba, the school’s athletic director Ryan Aznar and Sanjo himself.

Aznar, the school’s longtime head of its athletics department divulged that Sanjo fell short of his academic duties and hence, will be ineligible to play for the next season.
“One import nalang for next year and walay napasaran sa academics si Sanjo,” said Aznar of their import, who is popularly known around campus as “King.”

With this hanging over the reigning Cesafi champions’ heads, Alcoseba was quick to douse the flames and confirmed that they will have a new import next season in youngster, Mupungu Aigle Boko.
“As of now, yes it will be (Mupungu) Boko,” said Alcoseba in a brief talk with Cebu Daily News.
Sanjo, however, painted a different picture in an exclusive talk with CDN. He said that his decision to stop playing for the Cobras came when the school did not allow him to go home for the holidays.
“I wanted to go home for vacation but they won’t let me. That got me mad, that’s why I stopped but I’m still in Cebu doing some paperworks,” Sanjo said, who added that he is currently entertaining a lot of offers but he is keen on playing professional basketball in Italy.
Boko, meanwhile, is a 6-foot-8 forward from the Republic of Congo, who has been training with the Cobras for over a year now.
SWU assistant coach Rocky Alcoseba, the man primarily tasked with honing the skills of Boko said that they are excited to unleash the latter’s vast array of skills, which include the “Boko Shake” a variation of NBA legend Hakeem Olajuwon’s “Dream Shake.”
