Gentle Giants see more chances of staying at No. 1 in PFL with 4 games in Cebu
CEBU CITY, Philippines — The Cebu Football Club (CFC) Gentle Giants have a huge chance to finish the elimination round of the Philippines Football League (PFL) on top of the team standings as they host their last four matches in their home turf at the Dynamic Herb-Borromeo Sports Complex in the South Road Properties (SRP) this city.
The Gentle Giants are leading the PFL with 43 points from their 13 victories, 4 draws and 1 loss, while Kaya FC Iloilo is trailing them closely at second place with 42 points from 14-3 (win-loss) record.
Kaya still club to beat
Kaya FC Iloilo, the former PFL champion, has a chance to retake the top spot as they clash with the Gentle Giants on April 23, at the Dynamic Herb-Borromeo Sports Complex. Their match will be the kick-off of the four home game series for the Gentle Giants.
On paper, the Gentle Giants have the upper hand as they beat Kaya twice in their previous meetings. One of it was their 3-2 victory against Kaya at the same venue last October 9.
Still, Kaya remains the club to beat in the PFL and Saturday’s match will be pivotal for both clubs.
Laguna FC, Azkals next
After Kaya, the Gentle Giants will host the No. 5 team Stallion Laguna FC twice on May 21 and May 24. It can be recalled that CFC was supposedly to host Stallion last October 23, but this was cancelled at the last minute.
Lastly, they will host the Azkals Development Team on May 27, as their final elimination round match.
With four matches happening at the Dynamic Herb turf, Cebuano football fans will be treated to top-caliber football action in the next two months.
Recently, CFC defeated Mendiola FC 1991, 1-3, to grab the top spot in the team standings.
