THE Danao City government in partnership with Smart Communications Inc. launched the “Infoboard” program in simple ceremonies held at the Intosan Resort and Water Park in Danao City yesterday.

Maria Jane C. Paredes, Smart Communications Inc. senior public affairs manager for Visayas and Mindanao, said the Infoboard is a web-based solution that offers Short Message Service (SMS) facilities and text capabilities to Smart and Talk N’ Text subscribers.

She said the Infoboard provides weather data from the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical Administrative Services Association (Pagasa), safety reminders and local data on what is happening around the city.

Paredes said the messages are for free which means there will be no load deductions.

The subscribers can also send feedback, messages, suggestions or  queries.

Free Smart SIM cards were given to Danao City barangay officials. Danao City Vice Mayor Ramon H. Durano IV said the service will be valuable to their disaster risk reduction team.

Paredes said local officials can use text blasts to send information or announcements to each other and Smart and Talk N’ Text subscribers.

Thomas Mark H. Durano, president of the Liga ng Mga Barangay–Danao City Chapter said the Infoboard can help city residents during emergency situations.

Paredes said the “Infoboard” was used during the Sinulog and the recently concluded visit of Pope Francis. It will be used again during the International Eucharistic Congress (IEC) in January 2016.

She said the Cebu City government had been using the service for their traffic advisories.
