Pinoy Pride 29 boxers vow to go for the early kill tonight in Davao
Davao City – After all the pre-fight hype and hoopla, Jason “El Niño” Pagara just realized that there is much at stake for him and his future in the ring than what he initially expected.
That’s why the 26-year-old fighter vowed to win impressively tonight against Mexican Cesar “El Dolar” Chavez in the main bout of Pinoy Pride 29: Fists of Fury at the USEP Gymnasium, here.
Pagara (34-2, 21KOs) and Chavez (24-7, 12KOs) weighed in at 138lbs and 139lbs respectively, to make their 12-round duel a go.
They will battle for Pagara’s WBO international junior welterweight title which the ALA fighter can’t afford to lose otherwise all the other big plans ALA Promotions International has prepared for him would all go down the drain. One of which is ALA Promotions’ first card in the US.
“We have already finalized a fight for Pagara on May 23 in San Diego California. He will headline our first fight card in the US,” said ALA Promotions president Michael P. Aldeguer.
Pagara, Aldeguer said, is also part of a three-fight deal in the US in partnership with ABS-CBN’s The Filipino Channel.
Aldeguer said Pagara must win impressively tonight to convince him to send the latter to the US to train.
Aside from Pagara, his younger brother, Albert Pagara is also set to train in the US.
Yesterday’s Pinoy Pride 29 weigh-in was held at the SM City Davao.
Pagara is currently ranked No. 4 by the WBO in the formidable 140lbs division.
“An impressive win will be my key to realize all the big plans that they have for me. Anything less than that would be a big disappointment. That’s why I’ll do my best,” Pagara told CDN.
And to make his Davaoeño fans go home smiling, he said he would go all out for a knockout victory against Chavez inside two rounds after the latter bragged that he’d stop Pagara in five rounds.
“He said he can beat me in five rounds, well I can knock him out in two and I am serious about that,” Pagara added.
NIGHT OF FURY
Expect an action-packed card tonight as the protagonists all vowed to score knockout victories.
In the WBO International junior featherweight championship, Genesis “Azukal” Azukal Servania (28-0, 11KOs) and his Mexican opponent Juan Luis “Perla Negra” Hernandez (17-3-1, 9KOs) both weighed in at 121lbs.
“King” Arthur Villanueva (26-0, 14KOs) and his opponent former world champion Julio Cesar “Pingo” Miranda (38-11-2, 24KOs) also made weight for their 10-round, non-title showdown. Villanueva weighed 115lbs, a pound heavier than Miranda.
In the undercard, Boholano Mark Magsayo weighed in at 126lbs while his foe,Thai Sukkasem Kietyongyuth came in at 124.5 lbs. Arjan Canillas (9-0-2, 7KOs) and his Indonesian foe Stevi Ongen Ferdinandus (15-7-1, 8KOs) also made weight.
