SAYING he wants to start life anew, the son of the late Cebu Vice Gov. Gregorio Sanchez is seeking his immediate discharge from a government  drug rehabilitation center.

Leodegreco “Greco” Sanchez, through his lawyer, asked the Regional Trial Court Branch 13 in Cebu City to release him from the Department of Health’s New Horizon Treatment and Rehabilitation Center in Argao town.

Lawyer Rameses Victorius Villagonzalo assured the court that Greco will undergo periodic or random drug tests once he is released.

“Shabu traces can stay inside the human body up to five days only whereas,  heavy usage of marijuana makes the traces stay in the body up to 30 days plus. With this, any confined patient in the center for 16 months can be considered sober and clean already,” he said.

The lawyer said  Greco is itching to go out so he can resume his functions as vice president of the family’s Lacto Bacillus Pafi Techno Resources Corporation.

“He wants to manage his finances and properties by himself which he cannot do  because he is confined at the center. His counsel cannot fully protect his interests if the accused is continously detained in the center,” the lawyer said.

Greco was arrested on drug charges after he and a friend Edward Teves were caught allegedly using and possessing illegal drugs at a house in barangay Mabolo, Cebu City in April 2013.

Greco was released after  posting bail but failed to  attend court hearings,  prompting the judge  to issue a bench warrant against him.

Greco was arrested for the second time in Nueva Ecija in November 2013.

His sister, Provincial Board (PB) member Grecilda “Gigi” Sanchez-Zaballero, asked the court to commit him to a drug rehabilitation center, saying Greco had been harrassing their mother and family members, whom he kept pressing to give him money for his drug habit.

In  an earlier interview, Zaballero said Greco undergone rehabilitation 18 times in the past to treat his excessive drug abuse which started when he was a teeanager.

Greco alleged that his sister wanted him out of the way so that he can’t  assume his post in their company.
