Tagbilaran City–  The Cebu-Prisaa athletes wasted no time in reasserting their dominance in the Private Schools Athletic Association (Prisaa) regional meet by plucking seven golds and three silver medals in the late-starting athletics event here at the Carlos P. Garcia oval.

Leading the Cebu-Prisaa’s onslaught at the tracks are University of San Carlos (USC) Lady Warriors’ Lovely Grace Peña, who snared the gold in the women’s 1,500-meter run in five minutes and 38.48 seconds, and Joselo Rebalde, who bagged the gold in the 400-meter run with a time of 1 minute and 0.55 seconds.

USC’s Rufino Iba, meanwhile, added another gold for Cebu-Prisaa as he topped the men’s discus throw with a distance of 26.30 meters while USC teammate, Jason Naces, took home the gold in men’s 400m run with a time of 50.103 seconds.

The University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters’ Jelena Joy Dagatan and Prince Joey Lee also contributed two gold medals.

Dagatan topped her favorite discus throw event with a heave of 27.69 meters in the women’s division, while Lee snatched the men’s gold in the 10,000m run with a time of 37 minutes and 42 seconds.

Doling out the final gilt on opening day for the Cebu-Prisaa team is University of Southern Philippines-Foundation’s John Cliff Debulosan, who reigned supreme in the men’s 1,500-meter run although his official time wasn’t available yet at press time.

The perennial regional defending champions also showed their strength in volleyball after reigning Cesafi men’s and women’s champions Southwestern University (SWU) won their matches at the University of Bohol (UB) gymnasium.

The men’s volleyball team beat the combination of UB and Holy Name University, 25-19, 26-24, 26-24, to win Game 1 of their best-of-three series.

In the distaff side, Cebu-Prisaa also won its opening game against the mostly UB-manned Bohol Prisaa, 25-14, 25-20, 25-16.

Both Cebu-Prisaa volleyball teams gun for the gold today when they play Game 2.
