1.5M students enrolled in CV public schools
CEBU CITY, Philippines—The Department of Education in Central Visayas (DepEd-7) has already recorded close to 1.5 million students who have enrolled in public elementary and high schools.
This was confirmed by Dr. Salustiano Jimenez, regional director of DepEd-7.
Aside from this, Jimenez said that around 186,000 students have also enrolled in private schools, almost 2,000 students in State Universities and Colleges, and 6,500 enrollees in the alternative learning system (ALS).
“Actually we are not able to reach yet the target. Wala pata maabot kay ang atong target is 2.2 million,” Jimenez said.
However, Jimenez believes that the number of enrolled students will still increase since the enrollment is still ongoing.
Aside from this, some schools are still encoding their enrollees in their learner’s information system (LIS).
“So i-encode na sa teacher ang enrollment unya masud na didto. Now there are enrollees as well, especially in the island schools that were not encoded in the LIS. Once ma-encode na sila sa LIS, mokalit lang nya na ug saka,” he added.
Jimenez also observed the increase in enrollment during the conduct of the “Brigada Eskwela” in schools, wherein their enrollment per day would reach up to 100,000 students.
Brigada Eskwela is DepEd’s National Schools Maintenance Week, which seeks to include and enlist the assistance of all parties involved in the field of education in preparing public school facilities for the start of the academic year.
This year’s “Brigada Eskwela” was conducted on August 14-19.
“During the Brigada Eskwela, ang increase of enrollment grabe noh kay almost a 100,000 every day. Before the Brigada Eskwela, mo-increase lang mi ug 5,000 to 10,000,” he said.
Despite this, Jimenez expressed the agency’s readiness in the upcoming opening of class on Tuesday, August 29, 2023.
