Cebu provincial inmates sell baked goodies to public
From being a YouTube dance sensation, the inmates of the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center (CPDRC) have ventured into baking.
Their latest offering is the hopia, a Chinese baked pastry filled with mung bean paste. They are sold at P5 each.
Other baked goodies being sold by the inmates are siakoy (twisted donut sprinkled with sugar), regular donuts, binangkal (sesame coated crusty bread balls) and pandesal (Filipino bread).
They sell their products as early as 5 a.m. These are also available at Noy Honesto Cafe, a self-service shop at the Cebu Provincial Police Office and the Police Regional Office.
Marco Toral, CPDRC consultant said the inmates are now ready to take wedding cake orders. Proceeds of the sales will go to the inmates’ cooperative.
