Damazo Cup: Batch 1995 still leads in Div. 1

CEBU CITY, Philippines—Batch 1995 remained on top of Division 1 of the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) High School Alumni-Damazo Cup Season 13. 

Batch 1995 clinched its fourth straight victory and remained undefeated in Division 1 after clobbering Batch 2004, 109-82, last Sunday, August 27, 2023, at the USJ-R Basak campus.

Joy Olofernes tallied a double-double game of 38 points and 15 rebounds for Batch 1995. 

Batch 2004’s Alvin Lariosa tallied 44 points as his team dropped to a 1-4 (win-loss) record. 

Meanwhile, Batch 2003 improved to a 4-1 (win-loss) card in Division 1 as it routed Batch 1992, 79-58. 

Randy Pogoy led Batch 2003 with 13 points, six boards, and two steals. 

Batch 1992’s Jay Borres wasted his double-double outing of 22 points and 14 rebounds as his team suffered its fourth defeat in five games. 

On the other hand, Batch 2006 climbed to the No. 2 spot in Division 2 after thrashing Batch 2012, 115-94. 

Roy Quiachon unloaded a double-double game of 22 points, 12 rebounds, and eight assists as Batch 2006 improved to a 3-1 card to unseat Batch 2012 for the No. 2 spot in the team standings. 

Kyle Banguis scored 24 points in Batch 2012’s losing efforts. Batch 2012 now has a 2-2 record. 

In other games, Division 1’s Batch 1996 edged Batch 1997, 87-60, while Batch 2014 won over Batch 2011, 82-73.
