Bueno edges veteran bowler Bolongan to bag SUGBU ‘Bowler of the Month’ award
CEBU CITY, Philippines — Senior bowler Manny Bueno emerged as the champion of Sugbuanon Bowlers United (SUGBU) “Bowler of the Month” tournament on Sunday, September 18, 2023, at the SM Seaside City Cebu Bowling Center.
Bueno, 69, clashed with veteran bowler and fellow monthly champion Luke Bolongan, 32, in the final round. Bueno edged Bolongan with 216 pinfalls over the latter’s 200 in their final round showdown.

Bueno’s 25-handicap points over Bolongan’s zero became a huge advantage for the former to clinch the monthly title.
Before beating Bolongan in the final round, Bueno had to defeat Rey Velarde in the semifinals. Bueno scored 173 pinfalls while Velarde had 158 pinfalls.
In the qualifying round, Bolongan emerged on top among 15 other keglers. He scored 930 pinfalls to automatically earn a slot to the final round.
The 69-year-old bowler came in second with 927 pinfalls after a five-game series. Rey Velarde landed at third place with 926 pinfalls.

Meanwhile, the fourth to 10th placers in the elimination round were Tessie Dante (904), Rene Ceniza (900), Tony Calo (871), Roger Asumbrado (869), MJ Villa (854), Romy Mauro (843), and Robert Sarvida (842), respectively.
Only three monthly champions are left to determine the final cast of contenders for SUGBU’s coveted “Bowler of the Year” competition in December.
