The Philippine flag at the Borromeo  Brothers Elementary School in Cansojong, Talisay City flew at  half-staff after news of teacher Rosette Capala death came out.

The 45-year-old Capala was a class advisor of one of the school’s Grade IV sections.

The school’s head teacher Evelyn Sumayan said she talked with Capala’s mother who disclosed that her daughter was not supposed to be with  the sedan’s driver seaman Rustico Bas, a friend Oscar Juinio and her cousins.

Capala’s mother said her other daughter Carmel and  cousins Alma and Gwendolyn Basalo were with Bas at a resort in barangay Cansojong, Talisay City.

She said the group called Capala and Juinio because they wanted the two to reconcile.

Capala, a widow, had a relationship with Juinio, who is single.

Capala and Juinio had a two-year-old daughter and they had a recent falling out.

“Gusto nila nga magkauli ang duha (They wanted the two to reconcile),” Sumayan said.

Reconciled
She said Juinio even talked to Capala’s co-workers to facilitate their reconciliation.

Juinio was reportedly processing his papers to join his family abroad.

Sumayan said Capala’s mother agreed to let her meet her sister at the resort.

It was 10 pm when Capala arrived at the beach resort in barangay Cansojong. But the teacher  didn’t drink any liquor.

Juinio arrived at the resort at 1 a.m. The two reportedly reconciled and Carmel went home ahead of her sister.

Shocked
Capala and Juinio joined Bas and her cousins in Bas’s home in barangay Poblacion Talisay City and headed to Cebu City to eat at the Larsian barbecue station at Fuente Osmeña.

Police had yet to confirm whether Bas, who drove the vehicle, was drunk though Sumayan said she believed he was.

“Na-shock mi’ng tanan, wa mi katuo nga mahitabo to niya (We were shocked, we never believed it would happen to her),” Sumayan said.

Sumayan  said Capala was very happy when she last met her at school at 2 p.m. last Saturday. She said she and Capala ate congee for snacks at the time.

Sumayan said the Talisay City school division may appoint a substitute teacher to take Capala’s place.  The truck driven by Cojo is impounded at the Parian police precinct.

Traffic investigator P03 Edgar Baton said the company Cojo worked for will pay for the burial expenses.

If there is no settlement today, charges of reckless imprudence resulting in multiple homicide will be filed against Cojo, Baton said.
