Rama asks LTO: Catch overspeeding motorists
Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama called on the Land Transportation Office to apprehend motorists that exceed the 40 kilometer per hour speed limit imposed by the city government at the South Road Properties (SRP).
Rama made the appeal in yesterday’s video conference with reporters a day after Sunday’s vehicular accident that killed five people at the South Coastal Road.
“The LTO should be there since that’s a national road. Why should they be somewhere else nga way may nangamatay didto? Naa may mga LTO nga manakop. Then magdakop sila sa overspeeding and dili sila mangatog (when there are no deaths there. There are LTO personnel that apprehend. They should go after those that overspeed and they should not sleep),” Rama said.

Seaman Rustico Bas, his friend Oscar Juinio (not Oñeo as earlier reported), Rosette Capala and her cousins Alma and Gwendolyn Basalo died when the Hyundai sedan driven by Bas collided with a trailer truck that carried 700 bags of cement at the South Coastal Road.
The sedan was registered to Bas’ brother Jose. The truck driver, Danilo Cojo, said he was headed north to SM Seaside Mall when he saw the vehicle crisscrossing the south lane.

The sedan swerved to the opposite lane then went over the center island and hit the trailer truck.
The sedan was dragged 92 meters before the truck stopped and was a total wreck.
Bas, Alma, Capala and Gwendolyn Basalo died on the spot while Juinio died at the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC).
