Cebuano bike enthusiasts are expected to join the seventh staging of the Habagat Night Ride on March 28 starting at the Cebu IT Park in barangay Lahug, Cebu City.
The 10-kilometer night ride is held in line with the observance of the worldwide Earth Hour Movement. It also aims to spread awareness on the need of having bike lanes in Cebu City to help minimize air pollution.
The event was launched yesterday at the West Gorordo Hotel.
Eduardo Solano, Habagat Outdoors Equipment general manager, said the once minimally attended event has now become a much anticipated activity for Cebuano bike enthusiasts. In fact, around 3,000 are expected to join in this year’s event.
“It’s already accepted as part of Cebu’s annual event,” Solano said. “We are proud that we Cebuanos initiated this event every year here in the country and we are very happy that some key cities here in the country have already staged their own version.”
According to Solano, the night ride, which will simultaneously kick off with Earth Hour starting at 7:30 p.m., is free of charge and anyone can join using any kind of bicycle.
The Cebu City government will deploy CITOM personnel during the night ride to prevent traffic congestion on the road that will be used by the participants.
