Batch 1996-Blakeley’s Motorcare grabbed the solo second spot in the team standings after it tripped Batch 1997-Solane iStyle, 74-61, last Tuesday at the resumption of the Cebu Eastern College Alumni Basketball Association (Cecaba) 14th Dr. Chen Lieh Fu Memorial Cup at the CEC Gym.

Batch 1996 pocketed its sixth win in eight games, inching closer to league-leader Batch 1999-BMC Hospital Systems/Hainanese Delights, which remains unbeaten after six games.

Leading Batch 1996 to the win was Rex Allinson, who fired a game-high 25 points. Rogelio Donayre Jr. added 14 points, skipper Shaun Wang contributed 12 markers and nine rebounds, while Bryan Renejane had 10 points.

Timothie Tan top scored for Batch 1997 with 13 points. Bryan Labus added 12 points and Michael Delda had 11 for Batch 1997, which slipped to 3-4 (win-loss).

In the other game, Aljhune Areja collected 27 points, six assists, four steals and a rebound to power Batch 1986/90s/2000s to a tight 65-62 win over Batch 2003-Dimsum Frito.

Randy Sypongco also played solid, finishing 20 points, five boards, four assists and three steals as Batch 1986/90s/2000s picked up its fifth victory in seven outings.

Jim Paul Yankee piled up 15 points, Gwynn Uy scattered 14 and Judd Veneracion scored 11, but their efforts went to naught as Batch 2003 continued to sputter with its eighth loss in as many games.
