Gabatan’s near triple-double tows AJL Surplus to 64-point blowout
PAUL Martin Gabatan continues to have a stellar season in his return after an eight-year hiatus as he flirted with triple-double in powering Batch 1990s/2001-AJL Surplus to a merciless 101-37 spanking of Batch 2006-1st ACY Shipping Corp./Cebu Regal Pension House last Thursday in the Cebu Eastern College Alumni Basketball Association (Cecaba) 14th Dr. Chen Lieh Fu Memorial Cup at the CEC Gym.
Gabatan led the 64-point massacre by piling up 34 points, 15 rebounds, nine assists and three steals as Batch 1990s/2001 came away with its sixth win in eight games to tie Batch 1996-Blakeley’s Motorcare at second spot in the team standings.
With Gabatan’s game-high nine assists, two other Batch 1990s/2001 players scored in double figures with Chester Go and Tommy Yu finishing with 15 and 12 points, respectively.
Peter dela Torre, Ryan Racal, Emerson Go, Norman Lopez and Norman Lopez each scored at least six points in balanced attack by the winning squad.
Gino Abella scored 18 points, the lone player to score in twin digits in Batch 2006’s seventh loss in eight outings.
In the other game, Batch 2003-Dimsum Frito finally barged into the win column after it nipped Batch 2005-Headway Motorcycle Hub, 71-67.
Gwynn Uy keyed the much-needed win—the team’s first in nine battles—leading Batch 2003 with a game-high 30 points. Benson Siao added 18 markers, while Stephen Delit contributed 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Kent Uy tallied 18 points, Philip Lua nailed 14 and Kenneth Ang had 11 for Batch 2005, which slumped to its seventh loss in eight games.
