Fisherman stabbed by drinking buddy in Barili, Cebu

Twenty-four-year-old Earl Jean Dabon may have to spend Christmas at the hospital after he suffered multiple stab wounds infected by his drinking buddy whom he had a fistfight.

CEBU CITY, Philippines- A 24-year-old fisherman was stabbed by his drinking buddy after they had a heated argument on Friday evening, December 22, 2023, in Barangay San Rafael, Barili town southwestern Cebu.

The victim was identified as Earl Jean Dabon, while the suspect was identified as Arnel Pancho Abonales, 40 years old, a construction worker. Both are residents of the said place.

In a report, the Barili Police Station said that the fisherman and the suspect were both under the influence of alcoholic drinks.

While having a drinking spree, the two suddenly had a heated argument which resulted in a fistfight.

Abonales, however, suddenly took out a knife and stabbed Dabon in both his arms and right chest.

Responders rushed the wounded fisherman to the Barili District Hospital for immediate medical attention for the multiple stab wounds he sustained on his body.

The police immediately conducted a hot-pursuit operation and successfully arrested the suspect in the area.

They also recovered an eight-inch-long knife from the suspect, which was believed to have been used in the stabbing.

Currently, the suspect is already detained at the custodial facility of the Barili Police Station, wherein he would face charges of frustrated homicide.
