Nocos shines in JRG Cup

LAPU-LAPU City’s fast-rising star Tifanny Claire Nocos scored a couple of victories yesterday’s to lead the opening-day winners in the 20th JRG Gullas Cup age group tennis tournament at the CitiGreen Tennis Resort in Labangon, Cebu City.

Nocos dumped her male rival Douglas Maravillas, 5-3, 4-0 in the 10-Under Unisex class  then crushed Maria Maravillas, 6-1, 6-2, in the higher 12-Under Girls’ division of the Philta-sanctioned Group 2 event.

Joining Nocos in the 10-Under Unisex’s quarterfinal round are Rafael Gonzales, who won via walkover versus Vincent Canete; Hans Cabellon, who defeated Kris Anub, 4-1, 4-0; Mitch Largo, who booted out Ken Labiaga 4-2, 4-0; and Chade Cuizon, who kicked out Hilary Coderos, 4-2, 4-2.

Also making it into the 10-Under quarterfinals are Joseph Enriquez, who won over James Canete via walkover; Maria Maravillas, who defeated Jan Penia also via walkover; and Clark Trazo, who vanquished Aaron Tabura, 4-1, 4-1.

In the 12-Under Girl’s division, topseed Lyrah Mae Repollo will face Ysabelle Gian in today’s quarterfinals after the latter won via walkover versus Zeelse Abarquez.

Also advancing into the Round of 8 are Farah Emata, who registered a walkover win versus Jan Villar; Noulla Ramos, who also inked a walkover win versus Nicole Villar; Hannah Tapic, who demolished Kirsten Albofera, 6-1, 6-1; and Febbie Abayan, who shoved out Shedel Gica, 6-3, 3-6, 12-10.

Meanwhile, Cebu City’s top junior netter Jan Godfrey Seno called up Cebu Daily News yesterday to announced that he’s skipping the Gullas Cup to make some time for relaxation.
