Melindo-Mendoza bout moved to May 30

THE INTERNATIONAL Boxing Federation (IBF) world light flyweight bout between ALA Boxing Gym’s Milan “El Metodico” Melindo and title holder Javier Mendoza of Mexico slated on May 9 has been moved to May 30.

This, after promoters decided to give way to the super welterweight showdown between Mexican Saul “Canelo” Alvarez against American James “Mandingo Warrior” Kirkland also slated on May 9 in Houston, Texas USA.

The Melindo  (31-1-0, 12KOs) and Mendoza (23-2-1, 19KOs) world title duel will be held in Mexico City, Mexico.

GREAT CONDITION

Melindo’s trainer, Edito Villamor, said ALA Promotions CEO Michael P. Aldeguer informed them about the rescheduling and cited the conflict between the promotional outfit handling the television rights of the two upcoming bouts as the main reason.

Villamor, however, assured that the slight delay will not affect Melindo’s preparation and conditioning.

“He is totally in great condition. He is much prepared and physically conditioned compared to his previous bouts. We made the necessary adjustments to prevent Melindo from being over- or under-trained considering that we will wait for more than 20 days again,” Villamor said.

Melindo has already done 93 rounds of sparring against quality boxers including Australian Andrew Moloney, Japanese Ryota Kithara, Carlos Licona and Filipino Mark Apolinario.

Melindo is currently training at strength and conditioning coach Nick Curson’s gym and at the famed Wildcard Gym in downtown L.A.
