JORY Ycong recovered to dominate the standard distance of the 80/80 Triathlon Series held in Sogod town, north Cebu last Saturday.
Ycong faltered in his previous triathlon race last April in the “Funtastic Medellin-Mayor Ricky Ramirez Triathlon Cup” in Medellin after suffering from severe lower body cramps triumphed.
Cornerstone Group, the organizers of the race in Sogod, were not able to release the official time of Ycong and the rest of the winning triathletes as of press time.
Finishing second to Ycong was former Cobra Ironman 70.3 champion Noy Jopson while Mohammad Sherwin Managuil of Zamboanga, who topped the Medellin Triathlon, rounded off the top three in the male division.
In the female division, Omega Pro Tri’s Lorhiz Echavez Lopez emerged the fastest while Jopson’s wife, Amale, settled for second. Lovelineill Casidsid claimed the third spot.
Around a hundred triathletes, mostly locals, competed in the race that offered a 1.8-kilometer, 65k bike and 14k run course that started and finished at the Tadeos Durano Port in Sogod town.
Ycong and Lopez bagged P10,000 purse while the second and third placers in both the male and female divisions walked away with P7,000 and P3,000, respectively.
