So why is sleep important?

This National Sleep Day, we’ve compiled 5 benefits of sleep.

Promotes growth

It is a well-known fact since we are younger that having enough sleep promotes growth. During sleep, our body produces growth hormones that are necessary for our development.

Sleep is also one of the key elements of athletic recovery and that is why athletes are required to sleep 8 hours at night for proper and enough rest that would result in a good or great performance during the game.

Improves mental function

Waking up well-rested improves energy and mental function. A well-rested sleep is a well-rested mind. During sleep, our brains grow, reorganize, restructure, and make new neural connections.

Lack of sleep may give you body ache and headache throughout the day, resulting in the inability to think clearly and irritability throughout the day.

Boosts immune system

With enough sleep, comes a stronger immune system. Nothing beats the natural vitamins that we get while sleeping at night.

During sleep, our body restores and repairs itself, making people feel refreshed in the morning.

Stress reliever

There’s no doubt that sleep can help manage and relieve stress because you’ll feel refreshed when you wake up. Enough sleep can lead to better problem-solving and decision-making skills.

Feel stressed? Grab some sleep.

Helps weight control

If you sleep well, you eat well. When you get tired and do not get enough sleep, you tend to have major cravings, resulting to overeating. We all know what this leads to.

If you wanna be healthy, remember that getting enough sleep is important too. If you are having trouble or getting only a few hours of sleep, try to consult a health provider.

Take note that adults should get at least seven hours of sleep at night while kids should get more than eight hours.
