Dimsum Frito, AJL Surplus trample opponents in Cecaba hoop

JOEY Catipay and Paul Martin Gabatan filled the stat-sheets, making their presence felt all over the floor to lead their respective teams to victory last Tuesday in the Cebu Eastern College Alumni Basketball Association (Cecaba) 14th Dr. Chen Lieh Fu Memorial Cup at the CEC Gym.

Catipay sizzled for 43 points and also had 12 rebounds, three steals, three assists and a block as he led Batch 2003-Dimsum Frito to a 100-87 win over Batch 1987/2000s-Vancere Toys.

Jim Paul Yankee contributed 20 points, seven rebounds, four assists and three steals; Gwyn Uy added 15 points; Norbert Inerez had 14 as Batch 2003 pocketed just its second win in 13 games.

Alfie Miranda Sy had his own high-scoring game, firing 33 points that went along with his eight rebounds, eight assists and four steals but his efforts went to naught as Batch 1987/2000s took its 11th loss in 13 outings.

John Quilacio piled up 27 points, 10 rebounds, four steals and three assists, while Barry Jefferson Climaco had 10 for the losing the squad.

Gabatan, on the other hand, coughed up 29 points, 10 rebounds, five steals, five assists and one blocked shot as he led Batch 1990s/2001- AJL Surplus over Batch 2005-Headway Motorcycle Hub, 87-75.

Tommy Yu pitched in 23 points, eight boards, three assists, two steals and Peter dela Torre added 15 for Batch 1990s/2001, which stayed in the upper echelons of the team standings with its ninth win against four losses.

Kenneth Ang tallied 28 points and Philip Lua wound up with 22 markers, Ryan Chua had 14 in Batch 2005’s 10th defeat in 12 battles.
