Davide: What about ‘Cebeautiful’?
Cebu Gov. Hilario Davide III yesterday lauded tourism industry stakeholders for their ongoing effort to create a brand for Cebu.
“This is really good. In fact, I am thinking of my own brand as well. I don’t know how this will (sound) — Cebeautiful,” he said during a press conference yesterday.
“I’ve been told by several tourists that the city – the island – is very beautiful,” explained Davide.
His lighthearted suggestion came a day after a branding session was held by the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry which invited a Singaporean brand expert to facilitate a workshop.
Several workshop participants initially agreed that Cebu could be personified as a “young vibrant woman.”
Other groups suggested images and key words like “tropical island paradise”, “sunshine” , “warm”, “summer” and even the black songbird “siloy”.

The workshop was the latest initiative to try to define a brand that would embody Cebu’s attributes. More inputs will be gathered for a report during Cebu Business Month in June.
Governor Davide said having a brand for Cebu would be timely because the province will host several Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) meetings starting August.
He said it would “certainly” have an impact.

“This will make Cebu stick in the minds of the delegates and participants better,” he said.
At least 3,200 delegates from 21 APEC economies are expected to arrive. Some will be bringing along their spouses and children.
Capitol officials were told by the APEC 2015 National Organizing Council to ensure that the delegates experience “Cebu’s best”and to highlight its food, culture and heritage, places to go, products, and investment opportunities, among others.
This will help delegates remember their experience better and convince them to visit Cebu again in the future, whether for leisure or official business.
