BATCH 1980s/1990/2011-Koi Herbal and Batch 1986/1990s/2000s chalked separate wins at the close of the elimination round of the Cebu Eastern College Alumni Basketball Association (Cecaba) 14th Dr. Chen Lieh Fu Memorial Cup at the CEC Gym last Thursday.
Batch 1980s/1990/2011 escaped Batch 1988-Dewfoam, 58-55, while Batch 1986/1990s/2000s prevailed over Batch 1997-Solane iStyle, 77-61.
Despite the win, Batch 1980s/1990/2011 still fell short in its bid to advance outright to the semifinals.
Batch 1980s/1990/2011, Batch 1990s/2001-AJL Surplus, Batch 1996-Blakeley’s Motorcare and Batch 2007-Chef Chang all finished the eliminations tied at second place with identical 9-4 (win-loss) records.
Owing to its superior quotient, Batch 1990s/2001 earned the second and last automatic semifinal seat. The other outright semis seat went to defending champion Batch 1999-BMC Hospital Systems/Hainanese Delights, which ended the eliminations unbeaten at 13-0.
