The Cebu Provincial government is planning to develop another community-based tourist destination in the province.

Vice Gov. Agnes Magpale, chairman of the committee on Tourism, said the committee already met with Gov. Hilario Davide III last Tuesday to discuss the framework  on the creation of  another community-based tourist destination in the province.

The provincial government already hired a consultant to assist the tourism committee to strengthen Cebu’s tourism industry.

Boboi Costas, former tourism consultant of Poro, Camotes Island, northwest Cebu, started working with them in the past  week.

“We hired a consultant to help us make another community-based tourism destination like the Bojo River. The Bojo River is the only honest-to-goodness community-based tourism. We should build more of that,” she said.

Magpale said they will assist Oslob town, south Cebu enhance their famous Whale Shark-watching if the mayor will allow them.

She said Aguinid Falls in Samboan is their next project.

Last week, Magpale was saddened to hear reports of guests complaining about having their things stolen in a beach resort in Aloguinsan.

We are promoting Aloguinsan because of the Bojo River. It is a great shame that it happened not only once but several times,” she said in Cebuano.

The Provincial Board invited the resort owner, the mayor, theft victims and the police chief of Aloguinsan to shed light on the incident in Hidden Beach Resort in barangay Bonbon.

Acting Mayor Mariolito Biton said the lack of security measures inside the resort like having a security guard and security cameras is a sign the theft incidents will continue there.

Biton said that they have given the resort 60 days to hire a security guard, install security cameras and acquire a special use agreement in protected areas.

He said if they fail to comply with these requirements by July 28, they will close down the beach resort.
