SHE hasn’t decided yet.

Former Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia said she was not yet certain whether to run for the top Capitol post next year or seek reelection as congresswoman of Cebu’s 3rd  district.

“Honestly speaking, for now, I’m more focused on my work as congresswoman. In the meantime, we will see how things develop,” she told reporters in the sidelines of yesterday’s forum on the Basic Bangsamoro Law where her father, former Gov. Pablo Garcia, was one of the speakers at the Archbishop’s residence in Cebu City.

So far, Cebu Gov. Hilario Davide III and former Gov. Emilio Mario Osmeña Jr. have announced their bid for the governorship in next year’s election.

October 12 to 16 is the deadline for filing of certificates of candidacy for 2016 bets.

“Actually, daghan ang nag-awhag kanako. I think dili man tingali ni matawag nga ‘you’re blowing your own horn.’ I am aware of that nga daghan ang naghangyo,” said Gwen.  (Actually many are calling for me to run.  I’m aware that many are making this appeal.)

Gwen was Cebu’s first lady governor and served three terms from 2004 to 2013 before running for Congress.

“I have found Congress to be a new challenge. It is just as interesting (as the provincial government) although the feel is different,” she said.

“But as always, I welcome my responsibilities as representative of the third district,” said Garcia.

She has authored 37 House bills and co-authored 125 others, and is vice chairperson of the House committee on basic education and culture.

The Lower House adjourned for a break from June 12 to July 26. Garcia said he would return on July 27 to attend the State of the Nation Address of President Benigno Aquino III.
